Tool’s Maynard James Keenan Admits to Having Covid-19 While Performing in Auckland

Tool lead singer Maynard James Keenan revealed today in a podcast that he had Covid-19 while performing in New Zealand earlier this year.
A fan who attended one of Tool’s shows in New Zealand was also the fourth case of Covid-19 in the country when he tested positive a few days later.

Keenan, 56, said in an interview with Joe Rogan Experience host Joe Rogan that he had been feeling ill, having lost his sense of taste the night before the band flew from Australia to New Zealand for two concerts. at the end of February.

“The food didn’t taste good, but this is all correct in hindsight, we didn’t know at the time that these are the things you’re looking for.”

Keenan said he spent four days in a New Zealand hotel “trying to get through” before concerts at Auckland’s Spark Arena.

“I was just drinking water, hot showers, taking care of myself, hot tea, trying to get over it and it sucked,” he said.

“But you still didn’t know what, how bad this could have been. If I had known how bad it could have been, I would have been going crazy.”

Keenan saw a doctor in New Zealand and asked if he thought it could be Covid, but was told it wasn’t because he had no fever.

The concerts continued as scheduled, but Keenan said it was “not fun.”

“We had to adjust a bit, not put the hard ones.”

Keenan kept coughing and his hands ached when he tried to practice martial arts. He was diagnosed with Covid-19 after flying to Hawaii.

“I thought maybe I sprained my wrist, so months go by without healing … I finally went to a doctor, an arthritis doctor, and he said ‘okay, so tell me when you first saw it … ‘And I started to guide him through it all, he says,’ You had Covid. ‘

Months after his recovery, Keenan believes he is still suffering from lung damage.

“I still have a cough. So whatever cough I have, whatever cough I have in New Zealand, like every day, I will have a cough attack, you know, for 10 minutes, coughing things up, so I still have lungs. it’s damaged, “he said.

A fan, a New Zealander in his 30s, who attended Tool’s concert on February 28 was the fourth confirmed case of Covid-19 here.
