Joan Jett: ‘This Is Real And We All Must Take It Seriously’

Joan Jett is the latest musician to highlight the importance of international solidarity in addressing the effects of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus.

More than 169,000 confirmed cases and more than 6,000 deaths have been confirmed so far, which has put public health and emergency services systems under great pressure.

Earlier today (Monday, March 16), Jett, 61, went to his social media to share tips for navigating the coronavirus and included the following message: “The next 3 to 7 days are critical / Let’s take all the tips so we can protect each other and redo what we love: play rocknroll for you. Even if it hasn’t affected your community yet, this is real and we should all take it seriously. I can’t wait to see you all once #BeatTheVirus ”

A cure for the flu-like virus, which originated in China, is not yet known.

Authorities have made it clear that the elderly, especially those with heart, lung, and immune conditions, are particularly vulnerable to the coronavirus, with at least 25 deaths related to a nursing home in Washington.

In Italy, which has one of the oldest populations in the world, one hundred percent of the people who have died are over 60 years old, and the vast majority are over 80.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Protection (CDC), the coronavirus is believed to spread mainly from person to person, between people who are in close contact with each other (within about six feet), and through respiratory drops produced when the infected person coughs or sneezes. These droplets can fall into the mouth or nose of close people or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.
